BENEFICIARIES
  • Direct beneficiaries are the people who will gain monetary benefits. They are

    •  Unemployed women belonging to BoP population as producers

    • Women homemakers as entrepreneurs

    •  Young men and women of BoP population as distributors, transporters

    • NGOs offering education to underprivileged students

  • Indirect beneficiaries are the people who will receive better civic amenities. You all will be the beneficiaries since

    • There will be easy supply of Green garbage bags 

    • No clogging of drainage systems hence flash floods will be stopped

    •  Non availability of plastic bags on public places. No need to burn plastics openly

    • Less environment pollution and diseases

ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERNS
  • Blockage in the drainage system by plastic was the primary cause for the 2005 floods in Mumbai which killed thousands. Severe floods have also affected countries like Bangladesh and Manila due to the clogging of plastic bags in the drainage system. Plastic bags were banned in Mumbai and Bangladesh after these floods

  • Deteriorates the flora and fauna of both the river bodies and the land

  • Production of plastic bags requires a large amount of energy which is derived from depleting natural resources.

  • Clogs sewage system and causes serious environmental  disruption

  • The plastic bags mix with domestic waste streams, clog soils, choke drains and finally pollute the environment. 

  • The flash floods taking place in metro cities are due to clogging of drainage systems by plastics bags.

  • Incineration of plastic causes emission of harmful chemicals causing cancers and respiratory diseases

COLLABORATING NGOs
  • Put the Green Garbage Bag in a dry kitchen bin
  • Use one bag per day
  • Drain excess water/liquid before throwing waste in the GGB
  • For large bin, use a liner before placing the GGB. Dispose the GGB without the liner
  • Ensure air flow for natural drying of GGB
  • Do not throw through concentrated wet mass. Make small pieces to distribute the load
